Blusher
‘Blusher’
Amanita rubescens
Watercolour on paper
26 x 20 cm
2024
£170
The nickname ‘blusher’ is often applied to a few closely related amanita species, and it is derived from the flesh’s tendency to turn pink or red when bruised or cut. This edible mushroom is found widespread in Europe and Asia and though it can be confused with other amanita species—such as the pantherina or false blusher—it is easily distinguished by its bruising colour.
