This plant, native to south Brazil, is named after Charles Darwin and coupled with the name abutilon which means ‘perseverance’ in Arabic. They are found in the tropics and subtropics of the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia, as well as the Greenhouse at Temple Newsam’s Walled Gardens. They share their nickname with alkekengi officinarum, which encloses its berries in the autumn with orange paper-like petals and bears creamy lace-like petals in the summer.

Original Artwork on display in the exhibition will be available for collection or delivered after the end of the exhibition in early January 2025 when the venue re-opens after Christmas. Prints are available immediately for collection or delivery.
